It is almost impossible to start driving otherwise. Moving in a straight line is the only way to start moving. I have never, ever taken Clumsy for just this reason. There's a handful of negative traits that you can compensate for with caution and planning - but stumbling around with bells strapped to you isn't one of them. I took it on my CDDA build. Turn on auto pan camera while driving and that should help a little.
