A bit late but this is pretty interesting - Snivy was actually one of the BEST starter picks for me, although all of my playthroughs bar half of one has been through Commander’s Pokemon Reborn Redux mod.

There are indeed shinies in this game, and the chance of getting one was increased to about 1%. Also, there are custom shiny sprites for almost every Pokemon so uglier ones can be cooler/funnier. That's because by the point we would be able to get the mega stones for all the starters we will probably have access to every starter alternate event.
