Posted March 11, 2014. I haven't played since they updated to 1.0.9 and I just logged back in to find that my smeltery doesn't work anymore. It won't smelt ores. I can put the ores into the controller block and the smelting bar will fill all the way up but it just stops. They just sit there and take up space.

Good idea though. I just built a smelter underneath a spawner and let them fall into it. That's what I did too , it's the best way , there is also another way , you can smelt blaze rods using lava , again you need to kill blaze . you build a smeltery that encloses the spawner.

Once your smeltery is finished, you can make more seared bricks easily by putting cobblestone into the smeltery and pouring the molten stone into an ingot cast. Keep in mind, you can put the tank, controller and drain anywhere on the smeltery walls as long as the walls are completely covering the inside.

Personally though I prefer just making a large (at least 7x7 base) smeltery, have two sides be for ingot casts, one for casting basins (to make glass), and the last side has the tank, smeltery controller, and two casting tables for manual casting to make tools.As you are new to tinkers' maybe you confused the smeltery for the furnace.
