Both have plastic trigger guards with the safety in front of the trigger. Both have reasonably crisp triggers with less than 5-lb pulls. The A300 is a smidge heavier and you have to clean it more but it recoils less. The Franchi is a smidge lighter and runs cleaner but the recoil impulse is a lil' sharper. I have the A300 in 20 gauge and the sporting version of the franchi in 12. Both are nice guns but I shoot the V3 better and it has less recoil than the A300 in my opinion. My first gun was an 870 and I shot an 11-87 for 20 years. Probably why I shoot the Remington better. I just starting using an A300 this year and was previously a dedicated Remington guy shooting an 870, 1100, and 1148.

The A300 is build around the older 391 and 390's etc. The A400 gets you the rotating bolt head, and blink gas system. Both go bang, both cycle any load, both will wack ducks and break clays. As someone that owns both, there isn't a whole lot that is different other then the bolts and once again the rotating bolt head.
