I really like Wintertusk's crafting, including the wands and amulets.The biggest downfall from crafted gear in Avalon (even vendor purchased, or drops), are the power pip %, damage boost, resistance, critical block, mana decrease. All of these are essential when fighting the tougher Avalon opponents. The Wintertusk crafted gear is on par with Waterworks. (In fact, some of us prefer the crafted hat because it comes with a blade!) It will last you a good 20 levels, at which point you might decide to swap it out for level 75 Avalon crafted gear. Crafting is needed eventually for dragoon gear. I don't really see how I could help more. There are 3 ways to get gear, farming, crafting and buying from bazaar or vendors. Without farming or crafting all I can say is check the bazaar gear on your level ups and look at vedor inventorys when you see them. 3.they're good universal rings and athames. but if you're just trying to speed quest, get the lvl 56 school specific athame and ring from the bazaar that gives the most damage. Ring gives +4 energy, athame gives +2, and both have decent other stats. You'll update the ring with a +5 energy and a better damage school-specific one if you're lucky ...

Good luck with that. I think gear in this game is it's biggest down fall. Up to level 60 we are lulled into buying from the Bazaar, Waterworks and/or for us non farmers, the Wintertusk crafted. Past that there really doesn't seem to be an all around general set of gear offered that is standard in the game.
