Apocalypse seems to be about 1-2 months. Combat is tricky for me and I generally avoid it, since it has been the root of my mishaps. Create a sandbox with Apocalypse preset (what you'll be playing mostly) but set the Loot Rarity to Abundant on everything. Make a combat oriented character like a Construction Worker with Strong and just play to kill as many zombies as you can.

Apocalypse, with cheese barricades to create real safe zones is the sweet spot IMO. I prefer respawn on for the loot/gameplay, but don't want my base constantly attacked. Even on apocalypse, without cheese, you can just base in some areas that are 100% safe. Survivor is a bit easier than Apocalypse because it is closer to the way the game used to play on older builds, which is a good way to learn the game I think. Having no respawns gives you the freedom to actually create safe-ish zones and dig your teeth in all of the other systems in the game. Plus it's just more "realistic". Strength does change things, like taking down barricades. There is no damage stat in game, thats why damage doesnt go up. How deadly are injuries is another option (In Meta I think). For "Damage" esque thingies, it makes zombies have an easier time grabbing you and pulling you down. For Toughness, it DOES change the stats, though it's hard to see.The wire fences around my base are built with level 7 metalworking, and they can be destroyed by zombies. (the non-player crafted one's, i.e those occurring naturally on the map, can't be destroyed) The other furniture was all lifted from various buildings across the map. Everything you see can be picked up or built.for MP I usually get unlucky (cuz since loot is predetermined it's broke), short-sighted, weak stomach, and a toss-up for conspicuous. The downsides are almost negligible, they simply don't do enough to be an annoying hindrance.
