The Rainbow Crystal Staff performs better than Lunar Portal Staff against invasions (since it can fire multiple beams at once), but worse against single targets. Each has its own niche and I think they're pretty well balanced against each other, though they could probably both afford to be better compared to other ML drops.

I like the lunar portal one more personally, cause the attack and speed of the rainbow crystal staff are a bit odd and don't work against some faster enemies. lunar portal is more consistent.
