The scythe is way more useful than the spear in most situations, especially for slayer. It also just makes rax/greg laughably easy, while using spear would require a bit more moving. I use both, and I'm glad the bleed buff can pump out more damage while bossing, but overall if I literally could only pick one, I'd go scythe.

I use a limitless staff for general mid-high level slayer. It's good, saves bringing runes, and can be augmented to add useful perks to boost your damage. It's fairly cheap too. Limitless staff of air is pretty good as it allows you to cast air surge for free, which in general usage, is a damaging spell and suits a lot of occasions.
