It did say Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven, Conn in italics on the barrel and it does say MARLIN GOLDEN 39A in caps. I know "golden" means its not old old. But it only had a 4 digit serial number located under the lever handle on the bottom tang, 3367. No other numbers on the exterior of the rifle.
