Remove the pinch wire and metal contacts from their plastic housing, tape the metal contacts together with electrical tape is a better fix than cleaning them. They are located in a place that collects wet litter which causes ongoing problems. Taping the metal contacts together bypasses the pinch.

I concluded (before disassembly) that it was both the pinch sensor and the DFI assemble causing me trouble so in a Hail Mary I tried to fix both problems in one go. On my litter robot I found and removed 9 screws from the underside of the base to access the electronics within the base.
