The AFK timer is quite short, but the main issue with it is the lack of visible warning. I get kicked most of the time being few feet away from the PC due to lack of time awareness. I am sure a lot of kicks could be avoided if there were some kind of countdown for couple minutes before it happens.

the AFK timer is pretty good, allowing people to have a 10 minute bathroom break or 10 minutes to do whatever they want, and if they interact with the game for a few seconds in between it is a way to extend it. even for work it is advised to have a 15 minute break every 2 hours, and that can easily be achieved with the current system.
Just get reinvited. The afk timer keeps people playing. Right now the worst a single player can represent is 6.25% of the server, it could be as much as 20% of the server in a perfect storm. I'd rather people get lazy bearded.

Doing one of the hide emotes will extend your AFK timer to about 15 min. I do this whenever I'm stepping out for a smoke. Also, if you have SoT on Steam, you can use the SteamLink app on your phone. Super helpful for me. If you're able to get back to the game, adjusting the FOV will reset your AFK timer, so you can go back to whatever you're doing.
