If you don't want infestations at all, you can disable them in the scenario editor. You can always use the debug tool "remove roof" to get rid of overhead mountain, if you want to cheat or have a running game. I usually build wood walls underneath so they cannot spawn at all. Does not help if you want to build a mountain base, of course.

Theyre so defensive they had to make a special event to make it even somewhat balanced. Without infestations the mountain bases are just better, with infestations they're balanced. You're protected from above against many things and have extremely tough and thick natural walls. You also often find steel or components while making it. Note that as more bugs emerge, they wander in a bigger radius around their nest (so as to keep bug density fairly equalised). When they wandering takes them through a wall, they will attempt to burrow through it. This means that infestations can really get out of hand in the long run. -

It's not the wires that cause the zzzzt, but batteries being overcharged. The zzzzt just happens somewhere along the wiring. And while wires no longer prevent infestations, sleeping spots and animal sleeping spots do. You could just fill everywhere that doesn't have furniture with one of the sleeping spots, and it'll keep you relatively safe.I believe there is an option in the mod options to show an alert when an infestation spawns. When infestation starts, traps ignite floor and temp goes to 1000C in a few seconds, all the insects dead. Just need to replace the floors after that. There are other factors that influence the infestation chance. If a room is lit, it decreases the risk. The colder it is, also less. And I believe if there's a cable in a tile, it is not a valid infestation spawn point. You can mine a large, dark, temperate overhead mountain room to "bait" the infestation.Boomalope.
