I'm farming the slimes in the depths and it's a bit slow, though I know there are better areas that come later I've only been as far as the first blightown bonfire and I'd like to get it now if possible.

I also remember getting titanite shard was so easy in DS1 in the main castle area where you start the game. They drop titanite shards like crazy. I had a variety of weapons upgraded in DS3 pretty early on, while DS2 I only have the Battle Axe at +5, but due to lack of titanite shard I haven't been able to experiment with other weapons.
