Then lay down 8 more and the next gate you place should snap and overlap the first one perfectly if it's facing the correct way. Fence foundations -> place gateway -> place walls in gateway to the desired height, make sure the walls to either side are also that height -> delete walls inside the gateway -> place gate door. The walls above the gateway are somehow supported by the walls to either side, no ceilings necessary.
