Pelmicrite.

I need help identifying these carbonate thin sections. We have a bunch of pics and have the options of: oomicrite, oosparite, pelmicrite, pelsparite, biosparite, biolithite, and biomicrite. I can't figure out these three. I really thought they were all ooids but there's only two that could be ooids.

The Lebanese crustal segment is part of a much larger carbonate platform deposited at the northwestern margin of the Arabian plate. It is made up mainly of carbonate rocks of Jurassic-Cretaceous age. Petrographic ... The middle unit (209 m {690 ft} thick) is a light olive-gray to medium light gray, very thick-bedded to massive cherty limestone. It is primarily a silty and sandy pelsparite, pelmicrite, wackestone, and grainstone sequence which was deposited in restricted circulation in shelf, shelf lagoon with open circulation, and tidal flat environments.

In the Folk classification micrite is a carbonate rock dominated by fine-grained calcite. Carbonate rocks that contain fine-grained calcite in addition to allochems are named intramicrite, oomicrite, biomicrite or pelmicrite under the Folk classification depending on the dominant allochem.

Micrite as a component of carbonate rocks can occur as a matrix, as micrite envelopes around allochems or as peloids. The origin of micrites is still a problem in carbonate sedimentology due to the non-uniqueness of the processes generating it. [3] Micrite can be generated through multiple processes ...Packstone. 1.
