The eridium explosions really aren't worth it IMO. If we break it down, the explosions essentially provide 1.75 eridium per badass you kill so you'd have to encounter and kill something like 34 badasses just to make the equivalent amount of eridium as one single run of the Ruiner. TBH, this was really disappointing to find out.
