I don't recall any relic weapon going anywhere next to ilvl 440. I've been working on getting my relic to Lux since the last month. Some stages are quick and easy, others can takes days and weeks. Relic weapons go as far as HW and after that is Eureka I think, Shb hasn't introduced anything like those yet. Correct me if I'm wrong.The ShB relic weapons are still BiS for the older ultimates UCoB, UWU and TEA since you can allocate its substats however you want. However, once the EW relic weapons are released, the ShB relic will be obsolete. Its only worth doing for glamour at this point.

They always nerf relic grinds though. For ARR relics, the books, atma, dungeon drop rates and light farming were nerfed during ARR and I think when HW released. For HW relics, at least crystal drop rates and light farming was nerfed during HW patches. Eureka got echo as per the other comment, dunno since I haven't done that in ages.ARR's relic takes long enough that it's not worth considering as a head start option for HW's relic: it can take anywhere from days (if done quickly) to months. Edit: oops, I didn't include the times for the other older relics. Anima, with all the materials stockpiled, took me about 2 days per weapon.
