May 16, 2022 · The Chevy Bolt won’t turn on if it can’t detect the key fob. This could be caused by a dying battery in the fob or signal interference. The big battery acutually rotates the ICE to make it run. With the car ON, when you raise the hood, the engine should start. 18% is near the standard lower SOC for the big battery.

You will be able to lock the door and unlock it, but you won't be able to start the car (afaik). The actual key fob has a passive transponder in it - most car keys have had them for a couple decades now or so. There is a detector in the key slot. No transponder, no go. Joined GM-Volt.com in 2008.
