Boat runs slow at full throttle.

Jun 19, 2012. #1. I am having a problem with my 2002 Mercury 40 HP. I came out of a no wake zone, pressed down the throttle, boat took off as always, planed out....after about 30 seconds it shut down to about half power. Almost like I was pulling something really heavy behind me is the best way I can describe it.My boat is less than a year old. I tried to give the engine full throttle today and only got 2600rpm and about 5.9 knots. The last time I tried full throttle earlier in the year I got 3000rpm (as designed) and 6.7 knots. I scraped the prop only about 3 weeks ago, so I know it should be fairly clean. Bottom has a small amount of slime on it.Disconnect the fuel line from the engine side of the bulb. With the arrow pointing to the side where you pulled the hose off. Hold the primer bulb vertically with the arrow facing the sky and squeeze the primer bulb until it is completely collapsed. With my little Whaler and it's 115 Etec, thats around 3500-3600 rpm. Far from its topped out full-throttle 5700 rpm which is down right scary in such a small center console boat.

Aug 15, 2006 · When I try to run the boat full throttle it will bog right down after a few mintues of running. I tach out at around 4200 rpm and about 12mph. If I keep the throttle backed off a little from full it will run fine but I would like to get as much speed as I can out of her. My owners manual says I can run this motor full at 5400 rpm max.
